Struggles for territory: spatial issues and social representations

This special issue of the Journal Espace Politique (Vol. 37, n°.1, 2019), co-directed by Laurent Beauguitte and Marta Severo, aims to study how the territory becomes a conflict issue. Any conflict mobilizes divergent or even opposing representations and the specificity of territorial struggles is the creation of spatial imaginaries produced by the different actors involved. The privileged use of the automedia is not new, but the inevitable character of online communication is likely to offer an unexpected sounding board to local struggles, even if creating a blog, a Facebook page or a Youtube channel does not necessarily mean that an audience other than already convinced will be affected.
